Nestled in Woodhall Spa, we offer the best of both worlds: countryside on your doorstep and easy access to beaches, forests, wildlife reserves and charming villages. Our location makes it easy to enjoy a different adventure every day without spending hours in the car.
Many of our walking routes begin just moments from our luxury lodges, while other popular destinations are less than an hour away. Prefer to explore on two wheels? Our bike hire makes it easy to discover the surrounding countryside, with options available for both adults and children.
Bringing your four-legged friend? You’ll find plenty of woodland trails and beaches in the surrounding area where dogs are welcome, making us an excellent base for a dog-friendly Lincolnshire break.
Families looking for gentle adventures need not travel far. Several accessible walking routes are just minutes from Bainland, offering plenty of opportunities to explore nature together while keeping younger children entertained.
Looking for something more adventurous for spirited kids? Why not opt for a Segway Explorer experience and enjoy the same scenic surroundings from a new perspective.

The Bainland Walk is the perfect place to start from our resort. This smooth-lined trail is suitable for pushchairs, bicycles and dogs on leads, making it one of the most accessible walks available directly from our accommodation.
Starting from the main car park, this relaxing 20-minute wood-chipped trail loops around the edge of the park, making it ideal for families with younger children, toddlers, grandparents and anyone wanting a casual stroll to get some fresh air. Along the route, you’ll discover informative boards that encourage children to learn about the local wildlife and surrounding environment, all while keeping an eye out for birds, woodland creatures and seasonal wildflowers.
Approximately a five-minute drive from Bainland, with free parking available, Ostlers Plantation is home to a woodland walk filled with history and wildlife. Mature trees provide dappled shade on warmer days, while hidden Second World War bunkers add a sense of history to your surroundings.
In previous years, the plantation was famously used as a base by the Dambusters squadron during the closing months of the Second World War. Hidden among the trees, you can still see the bomb stores and concrete aircraft bays that remain from this period.
Children will enjoy spotting birds, insects and woodland critters, while adults can take in the woodland setting. Pack a picnic and settle on one of the benches or find a cosy spot on the grass for a relaxing afternoon together.
The plantation is also suitable for pushchairs, and with a variety of paths of different lengths, you can walk or cycle for hours while exploring the beautiful heathland and discovering new routes.
Approximately six miles in total, the Spa Trail is ideal for families looking for a longer adventure. The flat, surfaced route has very few obstacles, making it suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and cyclists.
From Bainland, leave through the main gates and turn right before following Sandy Lane to join the trail. As you make your way towards Woodhall Spa, you’ll pass peaceful countryside, mature woodland and open landscapes that change with the seasons.
If you’re looking to combine countryside with coastline, Sutton-on-Sea Beach offers a classic Lincolnshire seaside experience.
Around 45 minutes from Bainland, Sutton-on-Sea is renowned for its wide sandy beach, open spaces and relaxed atmosphere. Take a dip in the sea, feel the sand between your toes, build sandcastles together, or simply take a leisurely walk along the promenade while taking in the sea air.
The village itself retains much of its traditional charm, with cafés, independent shops and plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat. If you’re bringing your dog, remember that seasonal restrictions apply to certain sections of the beach, so it’s worth checking the latest guidance before you visit.
Lincolnshire’s spectacular landscapes provide plenty of opportunities to spend quality time together while discovering some of the county’s most impressive wildlife.
One of Lincolnshire’s most stunning natural attractions is Donna Nook National Nature Reserve.
Stretching across more than six miles of coastline, this internationally recognised reserve becomes world-famous between October and December when thousands of grey seals arrive to give birth among the sand dunes.
Raised viewing areas allow visitors to observe mothers and pups from a safe distance without disturbing them, creating a treasured wildlife experience for photographers, nature lovers and families alike.
Outside seal season, visitors can still enjoy the coastal scenery, saltmarsh habitats and birdlife throughout the reserve, attracted by the sea-buckthorn, which produces berries throughout the year.
However, as a protected nature reserve with sensitive wildlife habitats, dogs are not permitted.

Moor Farm Nature Reserve offers a quieter, more secluded walking experience.
Originally pastureland, much of the reserve’s woodland has naturally regenerated over the past 80 years, creating a varied mix of habitats across 48 hectares. The reserve supports a wide range of plants, birds and other wildlife, with sheep also grazing across the landscape.
Its peaceful atmosphere makes Moor Farm particularly appealing for couples looking for a quieter walk away from busier tourist destinations. Depending on the season, you may spot woodland flowers, fungi, butterflies and a variety of bird species, with every visit offering something different.

Kirkby Moor Nature Reserve is home to one of the largest surviving fragments of the once extensive heathlands surrounding Woodhall Spa. Spanning approximately 75 hectares, the reserve supports over 250 plant species alongside butterflies, dragonflies and hundreds of moth species, as well as a variety of trees, from birch, hawthorn and pine.
Visit in late summer, and you’ll see the landscape transformed as purple heather comes into flower. With colourful trails, open heathland and exceptional biodiversity, Kirkby Moor is a rewarding destination for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and anyone looking to experience one of the county’s most important natural habitats.

Travelling alone or bringing your four-legged companion? Lincolnshire offers plenty of routes where you can slow down, exercise and reconnect with nature.
For guests looking to keep active, our 5K running route begins directly outside the main entrance of our resort. The route joins sections of the famous Viking Way before passing through the magnificent surroundings near Woodhall Spa Golf Club and returning via quiet country roads.
Suitable throughout the year, it’s equally enjoyable whether you’re running for fitness or simply enjoying a brisk countryside walk.

Chapel St Leonards remains one of Lincolnshire’s favourite coastal destinations for dog owners, bringing together sea views, fresh air and day-long walking opportunities in the sunshine.
This golden beach, forming part of the England Coast Path, has plenty of room to explore the sand dunes. The promenade is also dog-friendly throughout the year, while nearby pubs, restaurants and shops offer additional interest to stop and refuel.
During summer, only a small central section of beach has seasonal restrictions, allowing your pooch to access much of the coastline.
You can also explore the surrounding Coastal Country Park before stopping at a nearby café for a coffee and seasonal treat.
Prefer your coastal walks a little quieter? Huttoft Beach, also known as Moggs Eye, is well worth the journey.
Around 45 minutes from Bainland, this peaceful stretch of Lincolnshire coastline is known for its natural dunes, open skies and distinctive car terrace, which allows visitors to park close to the dunes before heading straight onto the beach.
The combination of open sands, natural dunes and wide skies creates the perfect setting for a long dog walk, photography or simply enjoying some peace and quiet away from busier seaside resorts.
After your walk, stop at The Boatshed Café for a warm drink or something to eat, or treat yourself to ice cream from Farmer Brown’s Ice Cream in the warmer months.

If your dog loves nothing more than a good run off lead, our own off-lead and dog agility area is the perfect place to let them burn off some energy!
The fun, fully enclosed space includes a jump, seesaw, A-frame and tunnel, giving active dogs plenty of opportunities to run, play and explore. There’s also quieter space for more nervous dogs who prefer to take things at their own pace.
Best of all, it’s completely free for all our guests, and there’s no need to book.
It’s a favourite with our guests and a great added benefit of staying with us, giving your dog somewhere safe and enjoyable to exercise without having to head offsite or pay for a separate dog park.
Happy dogs, happy owners!
Fancy exploring the local area on two wheels? At Bainland, our bike hire service enables all our guests to experience quiet country lanes and traffic-free trails.
Our children’s bikes and trailer carts ensure even younger adventurers can join in, while standard adult bikes start from £15 and electric bikes from £25, making cycling an accessible activity or all ages.
