Foodie blog

With fresh produce from the countryside and coast, Lincolnshire is a foodie delight. Add in local artisans producing everything from rich, creamy cheeses to tangy gins, and you have the perfect excuse for a picnic with Lincolnshire’s finest products.

You may want to try those traditional Lincolnshire food favourites, or perhaps you’d like to explore a few of its lesser-known delights? Here’s our guide to excellent local produce you can enjoy from across the county. Perfect for a unique foodie experience and day out, and for bringing back to your lodge for a delicious supper.

A region with taste

From mouth-watering sausages of pork and sage to succulent plum bread with a scraping of creamy butter and Lincolnshire poacher cheese, you won’t go hungry in this county. Don’t leave before experiencing the rich tastes of Haslet, a pork meatloaf with a twist, or if you have a sweet tooth, Grantham gingerbread biscuits are perfect with a cup of tea.

Pick up local delicacies from the many farmers’ markets for an authentic trip, stop by a farm shop, or visit the local butcher to find the best cut for your family barbecue. So, if you’re looking to make the most out of your time in Lincolnshire, try some of Bainland’s top recommended businesses.

Food for the grill

When you think of Lincolnshire, thoughts turn to deliciously juicy Lincolnshire sausage, but that’s not the only local meat you can enjoy during your Bainland stay. When it comes to self-catering in Lincolnshire, you’ll find a plethora of butchers and farm shops serving up delicious cuts to take with you.

During your travels, keep an eye out for Grimblethorpe Hall Butchery, known for producing the highest quality meats. Everything bought from the shop is tracked straight from the farm, leaving you with a perfect cut of prime beef or pork. Or head to South Ormsby Estate in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Their well-known Lincoln Red Beef is grass-fed and ethically farmed directly on the 3,000-acre site. You also may want to consider the award-winning Redhill Farm shop - they’ve won awards for their wonderful pork.

Shop fresh

Why head to the supermarket when there are so many farm shops selling amazing produce across the county? You can pick up everything from fruit and vegetables to conserves, and perhaps even a few treats to take home as a souvenir.

At Doddington Hall Farm Shop, you can pick up everything from local meat to warm freshly-baked bread. Don’t forget to pick up the homemade jams and local wines too. For cheese-lovers, a visit to Cote Hill Cheese is a must. Get your cheeseboard ready and collect some award-winning cheddar, gouda, or swiss, all made from contented free-range cows milk without pasteurisation, ensuring cheeses packed with flavour.

A tipple or two

We’ve talked about traditional Lincolnshire food, but what about its drinks? From beer and wine to fabulous local gins, you’re sure to find the perfect tipple to accompany that picnic or barbecue dinner at Bainland.

For gin connoisseurs, you may want to grab a bottle of Deco No. 22, a velvety smooth drink with only 100 products made at a time, known for their notes of fresh citrus. Pin Gin, in Louth, is well worth a visit, while Massingbird Mundy Gin, in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, is perfect for a gift as you can completely customise your bottle.

Why not try out one of Lincolnshire’s quality beers? Little Big Dog Beer is perfect for anyone, with a choice of pale ales, lagers and stout, completely un-fined and vegan-friendly.

Then there is Ovens Farm Wine, another Lincolnshire Wolds spot that’s well worth a visit. Organise a time to pop past the cellar door and pick up a beautiful sparkling rose or perhaps a light summery pinot noir. These wines have been picking up awards and make the perfect addition to that summer barbecue.
